WEBSTORE UPDATE! FLESH WORLD 12", DHK 7", NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS 7", and MORE!

I’ve got a bunch of new titles in this month, totally a mixed bag but I wouldn't have it any other way.  2014 is starting out great! There are a lot of new records and demos I’m looking forward to, and am very excited to be stocking up on in the coming weeks and months.  As I mentioned in my last update, one of my 2014 resolutions was to get the new webstore goods up in the store immediately, rather than waiting a few weeks and loading them all in at once like I've been doing for years. So far, so good … I’ve already sold out a few titles that didn’t even get a chance to make it to the update, so I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the Grave Mistake FACEBOOK and TUMBLR pages as I’ll be posting about most of the new titles there as soon as I get em in the store. I’m also making much more of an effort to pick up new stuff as soon as I can, so definitely keep an eye on the store and these sites so you don’t miss anything!

Some great stuff this month … the new 7” from NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS (one of my current favorites, do yourself a favor and check out their "No Sun No Tan" singles collection as well), the ripping DHK 7”, the long overdue repress of the DAWN OF HUMANS 2nd 7” on Toxic State (I’m hoping to restock on the LA MISMA 7” in the near future too, but sold out for now unfortunately),  a rad single from France’s DEFAITE … give this band a listen I think this 7” might be a bit of a sleeper hit, but I really dig it. The debut 12” from San Francisco’s FLESH WORLD has been on constant play here at GMHQ, as has the new BACKTRACK LP (sometimes you have to mix things up a bit).

I also grabbed some copies of the newly repressed JERRY’S KIDS "Is This My World?" LP.  I should have to tell you but this is an essential record, and if you can’t afford an original that doesn’t excuse you from owning a copy in some form or another! I also restocked on some other TAANG stuff like the BATTALION OF SAINTS “Second Coming” LP and FU’s “Kill for Christ” LP. And as you know, I try to keep the classics in stock at all times so I finally got a bunch of old titles back in stock like COCK SPARRER “Shock Troops,” DAG NASTY “Can I Say,” (as well as the “Dag w/ Shawn” LP), FAITH/VOID LP, MINOR THREAT “First 2 7”s,” ANTIDOTE “Thou Shalt Not Kill” 7”, TEEN IDLES “S/T” 7”, UNDERDOG 7”, ZERO BOYS “Livin in the 80’s” 7”, and a few more hits! Check the restock list below for the full list.

Picked up some awesome tapes as well including some Aussie demos from PRAG and NERVOUS TREND (both of which have been getting a lot of play here as well), the PROCESS demo, and the “Richmond’s Burning” tape; a sick Richmond, VA compilation that has a few up and comers from here in town that you should give a listen to. The comp was brought to us by CABIN FEVER zine, who also have a new issue out (their fifth), so pick it up and give it a read.

Thanks for reading! See you next week.

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 01.31.14

DHK “EXTINCTION” 7” (HYSTERIA)
If music could kill, D.H.K. (Destruccion, Huesos y Kraneos) would have wiped out half of Lima’s (Peru) Population. This new five-track ep has all the right ingredients to make a perfect punk/hardcore record, devastating bass and guitar riffs that ride over chaotic drumbeats and a ton of fucking spirit. If raw and ugly were drenched in a vat of Discharge, and MG-15 piss the result would be this." 500 Pressed, comes in silkscreened covers.

NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS “TOTAL DEMENTIA” 7” (DIRTNAP)
Neighborhood Brats are back with a one-off 7” for Dirtnap, and it’s a scorcher! Led by crazed frontwoman Jenny Angelillo and guitarist George Rager, and recently relocated to Los Angeles from San Francisco, the Neighborhood Brats are joined on this record by the new rhythm section of Tommy Branch and Richie Cardenas. The new lineup tears through 3 originals (The title track is actually a re-worked version of the b-side of the Roofie And The Nightstalkers lone 7”, Jenny and George’s short lived pre-Neighborhood Brats project.) and a Go-Go’s cover, all to ferocious effect. Neighborhood Brats are one of our very favorite current bands, and we are beyond excited to release this EP! This is a US pressing of a recent limited-to-300 tour 7” that had previously only been available on the Neighborhood Brats’ Fall 2013 European tour. All copies come with download coupon.

DAWN OF HUMANS “S/T” 7” (TOXIC STATE)
Repress of the 2nd DAWN OF HUMANS 7” (and first on TOXIC STATE). “Crazy Spirit may get all of the attention (how could they not with that male model singer??), but everyone in NYC knows that Dawn Of Humans are the trueborn kings of mutant hardcore punk in the city. True freaks in every sense of the word, Dawn Of Humans plays aggressively naive hardcore that sounds like it exists in an alternate universe. Nothing about it make sense. The vocals are the most immediate part about the music, which have become so unhinged and wild that I really don't know how to describe them other than that they are perfect for this. The music itself has grown increasingly complex (sort of?) in a stupid sort of way. I truly hate myself for not being able to do this record justice with my words, as it will definitely appear high up on my top ten records of the year list. This record is just that unbelievable and is beyond any sort of categorization I can provide for it.” - icoulddietomorrow

UMBILICAL CORD “S/T” 7” (VIDEO DISEASE)
Debut 7" from USHC warriors Umbilical Cord. Cold, harsh, and dissonant, Umbilical Cord play an eclectic, almost psychedelic brand of punk/HC that will leave your head spinning. Unorthodox guitars, manic drumming, and a front man that spews more than he sings, these four songs prove that innovative and inventive punk and HC are still present in a world full of imitators and spectators. For those who are looking for something a little different in their HC experience, I am incredibly proud to bring the Umbilical Cord 7" to the masses. Mastered by Will Killingsworth for the ultimate trip. One time pressing of 300 copies all on black vinyl.

DEFAITE “COMME DES RATS” 7” (MUTANT)
Dark Punkrock with solid songwriting, dueling guitars and catchy choruses from lyon, France.  Sort of reminds me of NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS especially in the vocals.  Recommended!

FLESH WORLD “S/T” 12” (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
On their debut MLP, San Francisco, CA’s Flesh World plays ice-soaked punk rock led by dark and infectious guitar flourishes and a just-under-the-surface pop sensibility that makes each song an immediate stand out track. Featuring band members who are all veterans of the DIY punk scene — from bands including Limp Wrist, Brilliant Colors, Needles, and more — Flesh World brings influences from a host of punk sub-genres together, calling to mind the tense moodiness of classic British post punk, the sneer of the 1977 school, and just a hint of C86 flourish and feedback. Most importantly, this MLP includes six hopelessly catchy songs that will work their way into your skull like an infection without a cure.  The album comes in a full color sleeve designed by guitarist Jess Scott including a double sided poster with doubles as lyric sheet.

CRIMINAL CODE “NO DEVICE” LP (DERANGED)
THIS IS TACOMA, NOT OLY Criminal Code’s first proper long-player deals twelve tracks of technical precision matched with brickwall power. There’s a barbaric impulse festering in the twisted hearts of this Tacoma threesome, but No Device unfurls with dynamic tact and structural intricacy, sating its every aggressive urge with surgical attention to detail. With a stark palette of grizzly grays and off-white stains, Criminal Code details a singular spectrum of punk both bleak and savage. Naturally, the hardcore camp digs it because No Device extracts maximal strength from a few instruments in a minimal amount of time, but taut brooding snaps into serpentine guitar leads on enough songs for your death punk beholden to break off a piece. At any rate, Criminal Code tears down your descriptors and brings its own on No Device. A fiercely present, assertive album that dictates its own terms, listeners will find their go-to snappy little tags utterly inadequate and reductive. In the age of vaguely negative-wave nouveau and post-punk pastiche, Criminal Code is a colossal outfit casting its own long shadow.

MODERN CHARMS “S/T” LP (CLUE 2)
Modern Charms are a trio formed in San Francisco, California, with geographical tendrils spreading outward to the Pacific Northwest, and far-reaching aesthetic roots in dream pop and blissed-out fuzz rock. Their debut recording glides through six tracks of gorgeous guitar damage and crystalline female melodies, soaked in the grey marine layers of Ocean Beach in San Francisco where much of this record was composed, two streets back in a suburban model home. Modern Charms temper atmospherics with confidence and clarity to sweetly excoriate your eardrums.

JERRY’S KIDS “IS THIS MY WORLD?” LP (TAANG)
“I first heard this record while hanging out at some friends' apartment. We were sitting there talking when the crashing opening of "I Don't Belong" came on, a single chord drawn out which suddenly stops, the drums lead a charge into the barrelling cascade of "I Don't Belong," a frantic, barely-holding-on anthem. "I don't belong here - and I know it's true!" Rick Jones croaked maniacally over the soaring chords. I tried to act casual and pretend like I was listening to what people were saying, but all I could think was "what fucking band is this??" By the time "Cracks in the Walls" explodes into "Tear it Up," no one in the room could concentrate on anything but the music. I ran out the next day and bought this record and it is still one of the best I've ever heard.  Jerry's Kids combine the best things about punk and hardcore without being either too snotty or too tough. The thing that really puts Jerry's Kids above other bands for me is Brian Betzger's drumming, which is all over the place without missing a beat. They also manage to pull of one of the best and most unique slower songs of this period of hardcore. "Raise the Curtain" is dark and moody rather than plodding along like most early hardcore slow jams. This is an example of a more melodic approach to the genre that really works. Flip to side B and it's back to the blitzkreig with one of JK's more political songs ("Vietnam Syndrome") along with five more classics. It's no wonder people are always going nuts in pictures of Jerry's Kids shows. This is one of the best full lengths ever made by a hardcore band.” - killfromtheheart.com

DATA CONTROL “S/T” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Raw yet melodic HC with members from Negative Lifestyle. Imagine a mix of early American HC mixed with Scandinavian HC Husker DU, Flipper, the Germs mixed with powerpop/punk like Suicide Commandos. 7” Vinyl 250 copies http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/data-control

PUSRAD “MODERN ANATOMI” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Members from former  Raped Teenagers . This is their best release so far , and it does not say a little. Superfast, tricky and arty, yet raw and honest HC Hard to describe the sound, but imagine the 1st Raped teenagers 7" mixed with early cardiacs. 300 copies http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/pusrad-modern-anatomi

WARCHILD “BLEAK REALITY” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
This, my friends, is hardcore as it was made in England in 1981. Drop the needle on the wax and just like that you transport yourself to a dirty English industrial city with Thatcher and all the teenage depression you can possibly add to that. It sounds obviously like Discharge , yet the music sounds modern and fresh. 200 copies colored vinyl http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/warchild-bleak-reality-ep

POOR LIFESTYLE “THESE TIMES” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Blistering, melodic punk from northernmost Sweden that sounds like if it was a hidden punkrock band from Hermosa Beach. This is punkrock ala 1979. Cirkle Jerks, Black Flag, D.I etc. etc. 300 copies.

PRAG - DEMO TAPE
“Prag come from Perth, western Australia, they include people of Helta Skelta and  Nervous Trend, The demo was recorded in 2013 and comes on tape format. Musically takes main influences from 80's Italian hardcore (Raw Power, Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, Declino etc), Spanish punk (Ultimo Resorte), Finnish hardcore (Kaaos), and L.A. punk such as The Germs. The tape consists of six songs and delivers a blending of the aforementioned bands in '00's sound: This is old school hardcore with modern sound, sometimes fast and raging and sometimes get the speed down to mid-paced pathways, vocals are angry and shouted and full of reverb and echoes, sound quality is decent. This is full of energy and power and avoids to be sloppy and boring. Without reinventing the wheel delivers some nice tunes by paying homage to their influences, as they say "The goal of the band was to do a modern take on classic Italian, Spanish and Finnish HC Punk". All and all this is a nice demo and old school hardoce fans will like it.This is going to come out in next month (December 2013) by Space Ritual ( a label run by a band member) and for next year there are plans for a 7 inch ep.” - http://crust-demos.blogspot.com

NERVOUS TREND - DEMO TAPE

Dark Post Punk from Perth, Australia. “Perth/Melbourne band Nervous Trend, featuring Chicago expat Jen Mace on vocals, released a five-song demo EP last October. It’s available for either a $5 cassette or name-your-price download. Sonically, the band do melodic, propulsive post-punk with a real urgency to Mace’s vocals that slots them in nicely alongside Deep Heat and Infinite Void.” - http://www.messandnoise.com

BACKTRACK “LOST IN LIFE” LP
(BRIDGE NINE)
Bridge Nine's newest label addition, NY's Backtrack, recently wrapped recording their new full-length with producer Nick Jett (Terror) in California. "Lost In Life" is their first release since 2011's "Darker Half" (Reaper Records) which was called "one of my favorite releases of that year and one of my favorite albums, period" by American Aftermath. In their second LP, Backtrack has created a fist pumping, ground stomping hardcore record that holds true to their New York Hardcore roots. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CIV “SET YOUR GOALS” LP (REVELATION)
A must have for any GORILLA BISCUITS fan, as this LP is considered by many as the unofficial follow up to GB’s classic “Start Today.”  Of course CIV is a completely different band, however the elements that made GB so renowned are clearly just as visible on this release; most likely due to CIV’s signature vocal style coupled with the alleged (and later self confirmed) rumors that Walter Schreifels was album’s ghostwriter.  The record features a bit more hook and melody on tracks like the first single “Can’t Wait One Minute More” and the title track “Set Your Goals,” (most comparable to the bouncy title track on the 1989 GB full length); although there are a good number of high speed scorchers on here like “Do Something,” “Trust,” and “State of Grace,” to keep things from getting too upbeat and happy; rounded out with some influence nods in the form of covers of KRAUT’S “All Twisted” and SSD’s “Glue.”  This combination of speed, melody, and ferocity further perfects the formula “Start Today” began mixing years earlier. If you can get past the arguably misleading and over the top visuals and imagery (although they do add to the individuality and charm of CIV, blame it on the 90’s), you’ll find a pretty unique and refreshing hardcore record.  Vinyl originally released by Revelation in 1996, "Set Your Goals" is the debut LP from CIV. Pressings were limited (with even less originally pressed on blue) and have been sold out for years, but now "Set Your Goals" is finally being repressed. This vinyl LP also features a cover of SSD's "Glue" as a bonus track, which was not available on the original CD version of this release.

DOWN TO NOTHING “LIFE ON THE JAMES” LP (REVELATION
"Life On The James," is the long awaited new full-length album from Down To Nothing, the band's first all-original release since their 2007 album "The Most.” Twelve hardcore rippers from Richmond, VA's best. Now available again on green vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download of this record.

INTEGRITY “SYSTEMS OVERLOAD (A2/ORR MIX)” LP (ORGANIZED CRIME)
In 1995, Integrity recorded and released "Systems Overload." What is not widely known is that there was an original, rawer mix that was later scrapped and the record was remixed and released that way. In 2012, current guitarist Rob Orr obtained the original reels for "Systems Overload" and thought it would be entertaining to try and recreate the original mix on one of the songs. He sent the track to original guitarist and engineer of "Systems Overload," Aaron Melnick. After that, they collaborated together and remixed the whole record to sound like the original version. Included are lost elements of songs as well as the original version of "Unveiled Tomorrows." LP includes download card and is limited to 550 copies.

MENTAL “GET AN OXYGEN TANK” LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Bridge Nine marks the 10-year anniversary of Mental's Get an Oxygen Tank! EP with this version that expands the 7" to a 12" with a live set on WERS from 2004. The NY-influenced Boston hardcore band's B9 EP is best described as "aggressive and immature and fun" and "sounding kind of like if Judge had a super high-speed train-wreck with Supertouch. It put a little more fun into the otherwise sad and/or serious hardcore scene that existed at the time.”

IRON CHIC “THE CONSTANT ONE” LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Iron Chic is a melodic punk band from Huntington Station, NY. Formed back in 2008, the band released a five-song demo tape followed by the "Shitty Rambo" 7" the next year, and finally their debut full-length, "Not Like This," in 2010 - all on Long Island-based Dead Broke Rekerds. Immersed in the DIY scene, this release finds Iron Chic recording the album themselves, and coming out poised for a bigger release than they ever have before.  On The Constant One, the sophomore follow-up to Not Like This, Iron Chic continue to craft catchy, indie-inspired, emotive punk contrived to relieve, or at least alleviate, the pressure applied by our contemptuous minds. The musical framework is left largely unchanged from their past work, much to their conceit. Guitars play high-end distorted pop while drums focus on channeling energy from individual to group, typically achieved with a fair amount of sing-alongs and emotional build. Similar to their other output, The Constant One maintains a certain level of continuity by transitioning songs one after another through the use of guitar feedback, ostensibly unrelated audio samples, and, in one instance, 8-bit.

SUPERTOUCH “THE EARTH IS FLAT” LP (REVELATION)
The only full-length release by this New York group. Heavy, brooding music with a lot of emotion. Exposing the myth of the "round" earth. New pressing now available on white vinyl with a gatefold cover and newly re-mastered audio. LP includes digital download of this record.

PROCESS - DEMO TAPE
"Gainesville, FL's Process bring us seven unpolished tracks of rage recorded in October of 2013. Direct in their message. Simple in their structure. No tricky song writing. No big budget production. This is not here to fool you. This is raw hardcore punk. Cassette comes housed in a hand glued, screen printed O - card w/ lyric sheet."

V/A “RICHMOND BURNING VOL. 1” COMPILATION TAPE
The new wave of Richmond punk, hardcore, and rocknroll nonsense. Compiled by Cabin Fever zine, co-produced with Feel It. The bands: SLUGZ / ANIMAL PLANET / THE NERVOUS TICKS / DIAMOND HAIRBRUSH / OMEGA BOYS / CHRISTI / ASYLUM / ATROCIOUS KONTROL / CRETINS / BARGE / plus two songs from the aborted SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS LP;  The lion's share of this material is previously unreleased and/or exclusive to this compilation. Over 20 minutes running time. Includes an 8.5"x11" printed insert. Richmond Burning 2014.

CABIN FEVER ZINE - ISSUE #5
Latest missive from this Richmond-via-Baltimore fanzine that's become as much of a visual treat as it is to read. William makes a point of prominently featuring his own illustration and collage in issue #5 alongside interviews with Austin's BLOTTER and Chicago's OOZING WOUND. Also included are record/zine/movie reviews and a few contributions from friends. On top of that a two-color original print from William is included with every copy. Cabin Fever declares itself as "the voice of the new flesh" with issue 5 and I can't wait to see where this voice takes us next.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #369 - FEB 2014
We check in with Polish legends DEZERTER, while Japan’s STRANGE FACTORY lets us know what it’s like living in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and STOIC VIOLENCE fills us in on the problems with bands compromising ethics for fame. ARCTIC FLOWERS discuss the current post-punk trend in DIY, David West of RANK/XEROX and RAT COLUMNS talks inspiration, and  VOIGH-KAMPFF tell us what it’s like to be in a cross-country band. NÜ-KLĒ-ƏR BLAST SUNTAN talks about band dynamics and relationships, POLISKITZO reps L.A. and their homies, and GOBIERNO MILITAR talks about discovering punk in Spain. And, as always, we have your favorite columnists and the largest, most extensive punk reviews section in print!

A bunch of new LP MARKDOWNS in the GM Webstore!

I just marked down about 40 more LPs and put them in the "Sale Records" section of the webstore! Most of the LPs I dropped to the $5.00-$6.00 range and these are all new stock distro stuff, no used records. Some cool stuff too, most of it I either have one copy of or the titles have been here for a little while so I'm clearing some room for the webstore change over which is going down in February.

Check it out if you are looking to pick up some cheap new records. I have almost 400 marked down 7"s and LPs in the Sale section, plus a bunch of the CDs in the CD section are still on sale for only a few bucks.

Here's the list of what just got marked down, I put full descriptions below if you were curious! If you see something that sparks your interested and want to find it quickly in the webstore, just copy and paste the full release info below into the "Search section" and it should pop up!

ARMEDALITE RIFLES  "SHAMBOLIC INDEED" 2xLP
Armedalite Rifles have been playing in the Hudson Valley region of NY for years now. Their always evolving sound is very hard to pin down but you can for sure hear influences ranging from early UK punk (The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers) and '70s dub as well as some worldbeat mixed in. After a handful of self-released records and a split 7-inch with Giant Haystacks on FDH, they had a brief period recreating themselves. They have replaced their guitarist (who also did 1/2 the vocals on their first few releases) and James has taken on all of the vocal duties. This new revamped version of the band has taken things to new level that is finally showing the true songwriting genius of the band. This third full length from the Armedalite Rifles feels like it's really their first album when compared to their other efforts. Features a guest appearance from Glenn Mercer (Feelies) playing e-bow on a track.

AT HALF MAST  "FATHERS AND SONS" LP
The sophomore full length release for the South Carolina's own AT HALF-MAST. The new full length LP is a further improvement of their powerful sound and original songwriting. Comparisons aren't that easy to make, because they have developed a sound of their own, but if you imagine modern hardcore influenced by Shai Hulud and Comeback Kid you won't be very wrong about what AT HALF-MAST sound like.

BIRDS AND WIRES  "S/T" LP
Debut 4 song 12″Ep from Birds & Wires. This Washington, DC-based four-piece outfit consists of former and current members of 1905, Aghast, Midvale, Redencion 9-11, Red Line Index and Lotus Fucker. Recorded by Hugh McElroy (Black Eyes, Horses, Equinox, Ruffian Records) at Inner Ear and Swim Two Birds. 4 songs at 45 RPM.

BLACK DOVE  "NO FUTURE/NO FATE" LP
AVAILABLE! 45 RPM 12". 9 bloody tracks of heavy, ferocious hardcore punk from Ohio in under 22 minutes. The music is unrelenting, ugly and driving without being formulaic. The lyrics are bleak, but are not without hope and the will to search for what is beyond the grave. Recorded on 2" analog tape. Silver foil artwork.

BOMBS AWAY  "10 SONG EP" LP
A repressing of their "DISTORTED THRASH PROTESTATION" 12" from 2001. Aggressive Portland hardcore punk similar to TALK IS POISON or DEATHREAT. Comes in a hand screened cover complete with new layout.

BORN LIARS  "RAGGED ISLAND" LP
Cutthroat Records brings us some more Rock n Roll, Texas style! Born Liars are straight up, catchy garage rock style punk in the same vein as Eddie and The Hot Rods or the Heartbreakers.

BOXED IN  "S/T" LP
After singles on Crime Scene and Busted Head Records comes the full length from this bunch of longstanding UK punks. Thirteen songs in just 18 minutes. No ballads here, just full speed ahead thrashing-punk. The record speaks for itself but if you want to download songs you can get MP3 from Flat Earth records. The band features people from a whole host of old UK bands including; SAWN OFF, HEALTH HAZARD, EBOLA, GENERIC, DOOM, MINUTE MANIFESTO etc. Needless to say this lot know how to pummel you into the ground!

BRAT PACK  "STUPIDITY RETURNS" LP
Brat Pack hail from Holland, but their sound is more reminiscent of the sunny streets, beaches, skate parks and pools of early eighties California. Since 2006 they've recorded a demo, which was later re-released as a 7'' vinyl, and a full-length entitled "Hate The Neighbours". In support of "Hate The Neighbours", Brat Pack played all over Europe, including two Western European tours, a tour of the Balkans, a UK tour and, of course, a bunch of other shows. Now, three years after the release of “Hate The Neighbours”, Brat Pack have crafted a whole lotta new songs and they'll unleash 'em via “Stupidity Returns”, their second full-length LP. Influences vary from the aggressive sounds of RKL, SNFU, 7 Seconds and even some later era Poison Idea to a more melodic and gloomy approach of the Adolescents, D.I. and Agent Orange, played skilfully, but still really raw and pissed. Also, one song features the wicked Solomon of Night Fever fame on vocals. All in all, an energetic and melodic hardcore punk assault.

BROKEDOWNS, THE  "NEW BRAINS FOR EVERYONE" LP
The long overdue vinyl release of one of my favorite records. The Brokedowns take all of the best elements of punk and hardcore to create some of the smartest, most creative, catchy, energetic anthems you could ever hope to hear. I'm not generally excited about the idea of "reissues," but this record is one giant exception. Recommended for fans of Dillinger Four, Off With Their Heads, and Witches With Dicks.

BROTHERS  "BLACK FRIDAY" LP
Eleven tracks of amazingly powerful old school hardcore with a new school flare. Positive lyrics compliment traditional breakdowns with intense, melodic, and catchy riffs. This is their incredibly accomplished debut release and is strongly recommended for fans of modern hardcore like MLIW or DEAD HEARTS. Hailing from Michigan and featuring ex-members of Comeback Kid, BROTHERS come at you with nothing less than the perfect mix of brutality, energy, and melody. Passionate, moving and full of energy, 'Black Friday' demands your attention and leaves you breathless. Yes, it's that good.

BURNING ITCH  "S/T" LP
Three dudes from Knoxville, TN where the GG Allin runs like the shits and the water is tainted with moonshine piss. Burning Itch are pure, unadulterated punk rock inspired as much by getting fucked up as they are by obscure, KBD-private-press vinyl. S/T is their first LP and does not disappoint...so long as you WANTED a payoff on the promise of their "machine-gun-toting" self-released 7", and the subsequent ragers on both Goodbye Boozy and Leather Bar. Yessir, the boys n girls with a hankering to get drunk to some loud, completely unpretentious punk rock ought to get their rocks off on this bad boy just fine. Recommended pairing: goes great with shooting fireworks off the Smokey Mountains at college students.

EARTHMEN AND STRANGERS  "S/T" LP
"Earthmen and Strangers - self titled LP - I love when bands bridge the gap between punk and indie without losing or getting lost in any of the above genre's charm. These Arizona boys come off as a lost treasure on flying nun records whilst taking in some of its neighbor's (RADIO BIRDMAN and the SCIENTISTS) hook-driven pull. I'd almost put my imaginary house on it these boys rock the CLEAN and the VERLAINES every second day whilst blasting the WIPERS in between. Not a single duffer; every track becoming an instant new fad, sounding old in the warmest sort of way, a beautiful tonic to the worst Monday bluesI've ever had. Now I'm off to spread the word: We have found this year's best record." -MRR Ryan Rousseau saw that Tokyo Electron was about to become a much less active band and started a new project. He recorded a handful of demo tracks and started to put together a new band. Well here is the result. 10 tracks recorded with his new band recorded and mixed at Cardiac Studio. This first offical output from the band will be limited to 500 copies (as a first press at least)

EMPTY GRAVE - "ABANDONDED" 12" READ FIRST
Tighter, faster and harder, Richmond's Empty Grave returns with thirteen blistering tracks of hardcore punk. Mix Christ On Parade, The Germs, and other early HC bands, then you can get an idea of how this hits your ears. Filled with unique hooks and cynical lyrics, this album captures the darker side of existance in an uncommon way.

FLECHETTE  "S/T" LP
The debut album by Richmond, Virginia's golden boys, Flechette. Imagine Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi having a few drinks and making a few irresponsible decisions, and wa-la! This 7 track LP was recorded by Tim Gault at Double 00 studio, and was pressed at 45 RPM for maximum quality.

JACK PALANCE BAND  "GET THIS SHIT UNDERWAY" LP
In 2000, Chattanooga’s The Jack Palance Band—consisting of members that would later go on to the Hidden Spots (Eric Nelson and Buddha) and Future Virgins (Mike Pack)—released Get This Shit Under Way (on CD only). Jack Palance were and are some of the South’s favorite DIY sons and this, their only full-length, is an album that’s bereft of irony, posturing, or ego. It’s just pure, honest, and heart-felt music that took the East Bay sound, twisted it around MDC and collard greens like barbed wire, and delineated some musically rich ground unmistakably their own. Both furious and tender, rough but welcoming, angry but understanding, realistic but hopeful, its power remains undiminished ten years later. And if that’s not an underdog testament to top-drawer, gut-level music, I don’t know what is. Jack Palance broke up soon after this record came out, and with a new drummer (Iggy Scam), became The Horrible Odds.

KAFKA PROSESS  "INGEN FATTIGE, INGEN RIKE" LP
Finally this project is finished. for all of you who aren't familiar with this norwegian band: they existed from '84 to '87, were the following band of "Svart Framtid", featuring Gunnar on vocals who later after Kafka Prosess' decline, formed with other friends "So Much Hate" & were in my opinion one of the best HC bands that ever came from Norway or even Europe!! On here you find all the stuff that Kafka Prosess have recorded in their 3 years of existence incl. an previous unreleased 7" session.

KAPYKAARI  "S/T" LP
Rough-edged attitude with full speed. Slanted, rough-edged, angry Finnish punk rock with anarchistic lyrics. This is what Käpykaarti brings to the table. These guys have been doing this for many years, and it shows. Bling-bling rock stars, the Winter War fans and other bases of the society get their share of the old-timers’ derision. Käpykaarti shout the facts and they do it loud! (Sarasteen Pienmuovi / Bad Hair Life 2011, LN-007)

KILLER DREAMER  "1,000 YEARS OF SERVITUDE" LP

LOST BOYS / IRRADIATES - SPLIT LP
"Rockin' old-school hardcore meets sci-fi surf rock. The LOST BOYS like their hardcore old-school, early 80s to be precise. Remember JFA? BLACK FLAG or D.O.A? They sure do! The spirit of AGENT ORANGE also flies over their music since they are not afraid to incorporate surf elements to make the whole thing more exciting. This is very refreshing in these days when most hardcore bands chose the easy brutal metal option. The IRRADIATES continue their crusade through the universe spreading their rock'n'roll message and crazy scientist music. This is surf music, but not in a traditional way, this is closer to a band like MAN OR ASTROMAN? They chose to offer us a cover song on this 4 song 12", "When The Birdmen Fly" from Australian punk rock band the FUN THINGS, and let me tell you that this was a good move from the French surf punks! They totally made it fit to their music and style. The IRRADIATES are just back from Chicago where they recorded with Steve Albini so you will definitely hear about them again soon. This LP is a tribute to the old-school hardcore punk spirit dipped into a big surf wave. The music, the black and white art-work and stickers are all the illustration of these guys' passion. Surf it up!"/ Laurent Veglam

MOUTHBREATHER  "LILA" 10"
New release by our friends from Richmond (ex wow owls, the set up). 5 new songs of raw pissed of hardcore that reminds me on Burn (maybe the kids on soul control). - but more dirty, more raw, more pissed, more punk. 500 copies on black vinyl (former releases on KISS OF DEATH & RORSCHACH)

ORDINATION OF AARON  "DISCOGRAPHY" 2xLP
Finally after all the waiting - the ORDINATION OF AARON discography is done. It's a double LP (A/B side comes on white The DLP includes the LP, the 7" and the split 7" w/ INDIAN SUMMER - but NOT the acoustic 7". All records come w/ nice booklets and an extra patch. one of the leading bands ( together with indian summer , current , policy of three ) of the mid90's emo sound. 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY DISCOGRAPHY BY EARLY 90’S EMO BAND OOA. DELUXE GATEFOLD EDITION LIMITED TO 1000. COLOR VINYL, LASER ETCHING, RUBBER STAMPED BOOKLET WITH UNRELEASED PHOTOS AND SCREEN PRINTED PATCH. FOR FANS OF INDIAN SUMMER, CURRENT, CAP’N JAZZ, MOSS ICON AND EARLY DC PUNK (EMBRACE, IGNITION, RITES OF SPRING).

PEACE OR ANNIHILATION  "FEAR CONTROL" LP
DISCHARGE / DISCLOSE worship band from Jakarta. Getting better and better. If you enjoyed the songs on the No Tomorrow comp, this is close. 12 songs, all killer. Pure raw distorted Punk Hardcore.

PEDESTRIANS  "IDEAL DIVIDE" LP
One of the few truley original punk bands these days, Pedestrians prove their songwriting abilities on this new eight song 12". Comparisons come and go from old Dangerhouse bands, Adolescents, old KBD-type shit, etc because their sound is hard to describe and somehow has managed to appeal to hardcore punks, garage rockers, etc. Fantastic lyrics and musicianship from real DIY punks playing their hearts out, not some major label fencewalkers which seem to somehow be accepted in the complacent punk scene today. That honesty comes through in the songs in which the power is undeniable.

PESD  "POLITIKAREPOIZONEKURVAE" LP
Powerfully colliding stripped-down hardcore with an updated version of the offbeat cold wave/new wave fusion of classic 80s Polish punk, PESD (Post Extreme Stress Disorder) pull no punches in harsh vocal attack, pounding rhythms and searing hook-laden hardcore riffs. The fast tracks tear with inventiveness and all-out furor of the best of international hardcore records, then keyboards and early industrial sound effects come out in the mid tempo songs to cast the record in a dark, near-gothic light, still retaining the aggressive urgency and mood. An inventive and powerful collaboration project between the guitarist of Poland's Legendary Post Regiment and the singer of the equally legendary Tragedia, "Politikarepoizonekurvae" was originally released in 2005 on CD on Poland's Trujaca Fala label. This was so glued to the Prank Record's office stereo and is one of our absolute favorite records of the last few years, Prank decided to press it stateside. The U.S. version has been re-mastered at Fantasy by George Horn and comes in deluxe packaging. Think Die Kreuzen at its darkest moments and perhaps BGK at faster moments.

PORKERIA  "LA MIERDA DE SIEMPRE" LP
Mexican/Latino raw punk from deep south Texas!!! Featuring ex-BASTARD SONS of APOCALYPSE. Ten tracks of hardcore punk/ punk rock that at times is fast and blistering and is also melodic and catchy. Their style is very similar to the early second-wave of UK '82 and international punk like G.B.H., Appendix, and R.I.P.

PROTESTANT  "JUDGEMENTS" LP
Protestant continue to be Milwaukee, WI's foremost purveyors of dirty, heavy, and raw hardcore with another full-length's worth of Catharsis and His Hero Is Gone-inspired hardcore.

PROTESTANT  "RECLAMATION" LP
"Here's the latest release from Milwaulkee, WI's Protestant. Protestant have been consistently churning out their brand of blackened, metallic, and crust influenced hardcore since 2004. The band has been a powerhouse of sorts and have released an impressive output of music in their eight year's existence. The band has continually impressed me with the quality of music they've put out so far, and their latest 12" is no exception. Reclamation is set to drop at the end of the month, September 21st, to be exact. Reclamation is a five song 12" that runs a little under twenty minutes. For the band, Reclamation is an evolution of sorts and shows Protestant veering slightly away from their crust leanings found on the band's earlier releases. Protestant have embraced more of a metallic sound this time around, but have done so in a way that does not take away from the aggressiveness of the band's sound. Musically, these five new songs are still dark, venomous, and brutal as fuck. All I know is this band does not fail to impress me and I always look forward to new material from the band. Highly recommended! Enjoy!" - elementaryrevolt.blogspot.com

REDDMEN / EYES AND EARS - SPLIT LP
Eyes & Ears grew from the mulch of the punk-soul orchestra Call Sign Cobra with a single purpose: to hurt you. The aptly named quartet fricassees the senses with a rock-fraught thunderbolt of sound and vision (or some sick corruption thereof). Inducing hallucinations of Hot Snakes in a back-alley knife fight with Nation Of Ulysses, Eyes & Ears gouges, pokes, and screams like a gang of adrenaline-injected sissies.

SAFETY PINS  "INVITES US TO YOUR FUNERAL" LP
Following their two ear-splitting albums on Munster, Spain's snot-swinging shit-splayers THE SAFETY PINS drop out a new one. Thirteen bare-knuckled tracks of degenerately anthemic punk rock hate played with fury and abandon. Aggressive, raw, and nasty.

SEASICK  "AWAKENINGS" 10"
Seasick is a product of New Jersey's rich hardcore punk history. While half the band hails from New Brunswick and takes cues from former bands like Endeavor, Fanshen, and the Degenerics, the other half of Seasick grew up at the Jersey shore surrounded by bands like Full Speed Ahead, Dead Nation, and Tear It Up. Seasick's second EP, "Awakenings," is 7 songs of politically inspired frustration and anger.

SLEEPWALL  "S/T" LP
Third release following two EPs on TOXIC POP. "The third release from NY’s Sleepwall. Recalling an era of music defined by feeling and passion. Some may call it 90s rehash, some may call it post-hardcore. We just think it’s amazing and are proud to be able to release these 4 songs."

STEINWAYS, THE  "PROMISE IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN" LP
I am not exactly sure what The Steinways are promising will never happen again, but if it has anything to do with making, playing, recording or releasing music, I hope they are proven to be liars someday! Listening to all of these songs collected from singles, splits, compilations and Grath's iPod made me remember why I loved them so much when they were still around - they made some of the most fun and fantastic pop punk music of the past decade! Promise It'll Never Happen Again collects remastered versions of every song ever released by The Steinways that didn't appear on either of their two full length albums. Two tracks are being released for the first time, another was only available on a not-exactly-available-for-sale wedding gift 7" that only 150 copies of exist, and the first eleven are being made available in digital format (iTunes and the like, as well as download codes included with all copies of the LP) for the first time... officially anyway. If you missed the boat on The Steinways the first time around, this is the perfect place to start. For existing fans, it's a great way to remember how good you had it when they were still around.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "JET SOUND" LP
Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited, a Swiss duo consisting of Ernest Maeschi and Karen Diblitz, create enticing instrumentals with an ultra-modern twist that draw from a variety of genres, including spy movie theme music, surf, lounge, and exotica. Their material has been used in a myriad of film and television projects, most recently The Chris Issak Show, and will appeal immensely to everyone from hipsters in their space age bachelor pads to trance DJs in the coolest clubs. “Jet Sound Inc.” is the group’s fourth album (the previous three are also on Dionysus) and quite possibly their best yet-don’t miss!

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "THE SPACESOUND EFFECT" LP
Switzerland's modern composers, Ernest Maeschi & Karen Dibilz have made their mark on the instrumental/exotica/space age scene using guitars, organs, vibraphones, bongos, weird outer space sounds, drum lops and tape effects. The duo's music easily holds up to the best US composers of movie and soundtrack music from the 1960s. Artwork by Shag.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "THE SPOOKY SOUND SESSIONS" LP
Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited have returned with their sixth Dionysus album, "Spooky Sound Sessions," a collection of 14 brand new songs recorded entirely at the legendary Spooky Sound Record Store in Zurich, Switzerland. The elusive duo consisting of Ernest Maeschi and Karen Simpson have once more worked their magic and created a series of instrumentals which will take you onto a journey into The Great Unknown. Guitars, organs, sitars, Indian banjos, Moogs, bongos, and sounds of obscure electronic equipment exclusively available to the Spooky Sound Lab have been woven into the unique Sound experience that is Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND UNLIMITED  "JO SIFFERT" LP
STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND UNLIMITED's fifth release on Dionysus is a movie soundtrack about the life of international racecar driver Jo Siffert. The film follows the different stages in Jo Siffert's career and accompanies him from his humble beginnings to his great successes on the international racing circuits - literally, from rags to riches. This soundtrack may be the best of SSSU's five amazing releases…up there with the best of any European movie soundtrack from the late '60s or early to mid '70s.

TIMEBOMBS, THE  "MUMBLING" 10"
Originally intended to be a 7", this three-song 10" sees Southern California's The Timebombs begin to break away from early '80s inspired hardcore punk and infuse more noise and mid-tempo beats, becoming reminiscent of bands like Cult Ritual.

TOTALICKERS  "EL PODER ABSOLUTO ANIQUILA LA VIDA" LP
2nd album by this Barcelona band, still in a crushing Swedish vein. That's D-beat fury all the way and when you like it rotten and decimated, you might not miss this one. Did I mention the band has a political agenda ? In this No More Faith empire, this is refreshing. Members of Infäme and Holocaust In Your Head.

TRMRS  "SEA THINGS" LP
Pronounced "Tremors." Sea Things is the debut album from these Southern California garage punk rockers. It's obvious that a lot of time and care was put into this record. The cover is a collage of awesome trippy artwork made by singer Tommy Stewart. Sea Things contains 12 tracks of raw, catchy 60's/70's fuzzy surf/pop punk with tons of energy and cool hooks throughout. TRMRS always keep you on your feet, and each song is a bit different. They play music similar to other so cal bands like Audacity, Moonhearts, Cumstain, Cosmonauts, Le Face, etc. Limited to only 600 copies. A must have!

WARVICTIMS / TILL DEATH - SPLIT 10"
Warvictims exemplify the embodiment of racus raw D-beat. These raging Swedes lay down six solid tracks ala the incarnations that the genre has produced. For anyone familiar with the genre, you can see that it has the brutal angst that has kept us listening for the last 15 years. War, Famine, and Death! The Till Death side is similar in vain. Great production and clever arrangements contribute to setting themselves apart from the rest of the wolf pack. Vocals are growling with tortured grunts and torrent agonizing screams. Guitar, bass and drums are all loud and clear in the mix. Expertly executed Musical misanthropy demonstrated by four unrelenting D-beat efforts that can't be beat.

WOMEN  "NO REASONS" LP
Philadelphia's Women return with their first LP. This follows up their debut 7" that they released back in 2008. No Reasons blasts through 11 tracks, in only 20 minutes. Just as aggressive as Women's first release, yet more melodic at the same time. A perfect blend of garage punk and 80's hardcore. A must have for anyone's collection. Co-released between FDH and Resurrection Records. Includes digital download code. Limited to only 500 copies, get it while it lasts!

YOUNG LIVERS  "THE NEW DROP ERA" LP
Gainesville punk rockers Young Livers feature members of local heroes FIYA and Glass & Ashes and conjure up eight tracks of high energy rock and roll with gruff vocals and dual lead guitars that may bring to mind Thin Lizzy at times, with the rest of their music taking the melodic passion of Hot Water Music and blending it with the all out aggression of Drive Like Jehu.

ZEGOTA  "RECLAIM" LP
This is Zegota’s third full length. This North Carolina/Sweden based band play a style of punk and hardcore that is entirely their own. Ever since their long out-of-print demo, Zegota have been breaking genres and enjoying music to the fullest. They have no fear of improvisation and bending the boundaries of most understand as “punk” while incorporating non-traditional instrumentation where they see fit. This LP contains the same 8 tracks as the “Reclaim!” CD released by CrimethInc, but you know that vinyl is better!

FLESH WORLD 12", new CRIMINAL CODE LP, and more in the Webstore

I probably won't do a full webstore email / update until later this week so here are a few new releases worth checking out in the shop ...

FLESH WORLD "S/T" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)

"On their debut MLP, San Francisco, CA’s Flesh World plays ice-soaked punk rock led by dark and infectious guitar flourishes and a just-under-the-surface pop sensibility that makes each song an immediate stand out track. The album comes in a full color sleeve designed by guitarist Jess Scott including a double sided poster with doubles as lyric sheet."

CRIMINAL CODE "NO DEVICE" LP (DERANGED)

"THIS IS TACOMA, NOT OLY Criminal Code’s first proper long-player deals twelve tracks of technical precision matched with brickwall power. In the age of vaguely negative-wave nouveau and post-punk pastiche, Criminal Code is a colossal outfit casting its own long shadow."

DHK "EXTINCION" 7" (HYSTERIA)

"If music could kill, D.H.K. If raw and ugly were drenched in a vat of Discharge, and MG-15 piss the result would be this." 500 Pressed, comes in silkscreened covers."

WEBSTORE UPDATE! BREAKDOWN, GLUE, WHITE LUNG, PERMANENT RUIN, and More! Inbox x

Happy New Year to you all! Here is the first official Grave Mistake webstore update of the new year! Let’s start this off right - I have a few New Years resolutions this year I’d like to share with you all… first off I’m going to stop being a slacker with the updates. I get new stuff for the distro in almost every day, yet for some reason let it pile up for a week or two (or three) until it’s time to do the email update. So THIS YEAR will be the year that I put new stuff in the DAY I get it … starting with the next update (because I put most of this stuff up yesterday … hehe).  But as I add new titles to the store, I’ll be making posts about them on the Grave Mistake FACEBOOK page and TUMBLR page, so check the links to those below and be my friend / follow up / stalk me / whatever you do with your social media time. I’m just happy to have the attention.

Second resolution: stop being a slacker with the release dates. I have FOUR releases that I’ve been talking about releasing for SEVERAL YEARS (two of which I ALREADY HAVE VINYL FOR!) and you will hopefully see all four within the next few months. I also have a few more reissues / collections in the works which are in full swing; assembling old mixes, masters, and layout content, so stay tuned. And of course, we have a few new releases in the pipes from some of my current favorite bands. You will be getting a 2014 preview email in your inboxes next week I promise, as well as a nice little 2013 recap. I have been working on my “Favorites of 2013” list and one of these days you are going to read it.

Third resolution: NEW WEBSTORE! I have been talking about this for half a year (see a trend here?) … I have slowly been gathering all of the info, doing inventory, etc etc to make the jump … my deadline is Feb 1 so HOLD ME TO THAT!!! Setup begins next week … you all deserve better than what I’m working with now.  New webstore will be faster and much more organized for all of your browsing needs.

Fourth resolution: thinking about making my webstore emails a little bit nicer. BUT give me some feedback here … do you prefer these all text email updates that I’ve been doing for the past 7 or so years? Or do you long for something more (maybe more graphics, some more structure)? Let me know … feedback is encouraged. Also, shorter updates. Starting with the next one (I have a lot to say this week … and most weeks). OK, I think I’m done … PHEW.

Some GRAVE MISTAKE News for 2014!

So with that out of the way, let me give you a blip of GM news to kick off 2014, and then I’ll get to the new webstore goods. First off, at the tail end of 2013 we finally saw the release of the COKE BUST “Confined Anthology” CD, which is a 28 song collection compiling the tracks from their latest “Confined” 12” as well as their singles from the past several years. There was no point in making a 9 minute CD, this isn’t 1996 (hell some people didn’t even see the point of us doing a 9 minute 12” … ), so we jammed this bad boy with as much stuff as we could. We’ve got it up in the store for $6 so check it out!

Up next is the BRAIN F≠ “Empty Set” LP … the long overdue follow up to 2011’s “Sleep Rough” LP, this has been in the works for a little while now but the vinyl is ready to ship and the covers and inserts are being printed as I type this, so we are looking to have an official release date for early February. Stay tuned this month because we have plans to put up a track from the LP within the next few weeks, as well as a full stream and we might even do a little “preorder” deal if the records get delivered early.  I’m really excited to be doing another release for BRAIN F≠, they are one of my favorites in recent years. Anyone who wants to inquire about wholesale, promos, anything at all please contact myself or Daniel at Sorry State Records and we’ll get you the info you need!

Enough GM news for now, stay tuned for the next email update, in which I will hope to have ALL of your questions about the 86 MENTALITY 12” answered. They call this a “cliff hanger." Now, on to the webstore update …

http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Another resolution is to tighten up these webstore “summaries” so I’m starting fresh with this one. First off, I had a ton of killer stuff go in the store in late Nov / early Dec, but I’m sure with the excitement of the holidays, some of these might have been overlooked. So be sure to pick up records from MERCY KILLINGS, GREEN BERET, SUPERCRUSH, KOWARD, DIE, 7 SECONDS EP reissues, THE HIGH AND MIGHTY reissue, LOVE TRIANGLE, SACRILEGE reissue, OUT COLD, AUTISTIC YOUTH, and a TON more.

New stuff this week … GLUE demo 7”, new WHITE LUNG 7”, GENERACION SUICIDA / CATHOLIC SPIT 7” (both bands put out some of my favorite LPs in 2013), PERMANENT RUIN 7”, VACCINE / NO FAITH 7”, CAUGHT IN A CROWD 7”, PESADILLA DISTOPIKA 7”, MAGIC CIRCLE LP (late pass, I know), SWEARIN LP, ABUSE LP, LAST WORDS LP, sick reissues from DEEP WOUND, BREAKDOWN, MOD SUBS, SAMIAM, a ton of LAST LAUGH KBD Reissues from the likes of THE INSULTS, FIRE EXIT, NUBS, VILLAGE PISTOLS, KIDDA BAND, and more … RESTOCKED on the ANTI-CIMEX 7”s!!! Yup, “Victims of a Bombraid” and “Anarkist Attack” available again; some not-so-legit-but-still-cool reissues from LEATHERFACE, HUSKER DU, NECROS, ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT … the FAILED MUTATION demo, and some restocks on the LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS 7”, GAG 7”, RADIOACTIVITY LP, YOUTH AVOIDERS LP, and more!!!

See, short and sweet!

Thanks for reading, and once again HAPPY NEW YEAR!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 01.10.14:

COKE BUST "CONFINED ANTHOLOGY" CD (GRAVE MISTAKE)
The "Confined Anthology" is a 28 song CD collecting not only the tracks from 2013's "Confined" 12", but the past two years of COKE BUST's output as well. In addition to "Confined," this release also contains COKE BUST tracks from their following releases: the split 7" with VACCINE, "Live on WMUC" 7", and 2011's "Degradation" 7" EP.  A much needed document for one of Washington DC hardcore's best and most active bands in recent years. "Confined," the band's latest release on Grave Mistake is their most intense work to date; which says a lot considering the sheer ferocity of the band's previous output.  This is no surprise however, considering Coke Bust have spent the past seven years of their existence refusing to rest on their laurels; constantly refining their style and successfully outdoing themselves with each release.  For the unacquainted, Coke Bust deliver their own brand of no frills fast hardcore, taking cues from bands like SIEGE, INFEST, and YOUTH OF TODAY.

GLUE "DEMO" 7" (LAGERVILLE)
Vinyl issue for one of those most talked-about hardcore demos of 2013. After one of the most epic hardcore intros I've heard in some time (and one worth of the band name's SSD reference), this launches into some absolutely scorching hardcore punk. I could describe the sound of this, which is pretty much pure 80s hardcore with snotty vox a la Gordon Solie Motherfuckers, but really what makes this demo stand out is the songwriting. The band have a way of varying the tempos and the riffing in a way that really keeps you on your toes and just constantly wanting more.

WHITE LUNG "BLOW IT SOUTH" 7" (DERANGED)
Two new songs from Vancouver's WHITE LUNG continue where SORRY left off.  Honing on their unrelenting post punk formula, WL returns with a clear confidence that they can write great songs and plan on delivering on the goods.  Featured as best new song on both Pitchfork and Stereogum, these songs are some of their best.  The band has been busy in 2013 but expect them to be everywhere starting early next year.

GENERACION SUICIDA / CATHOLIC SPIT - SPLIT 7" (DISCOS MMM)
GS takes the sounds of Swedish/Danish melodic punk (think Masshysteri, Gorilla Angreb and Vicious) and mixes it with pogo-in-the-air KBD energy. This follows their highly sought after demo (and various vinyl reissues thereof), s/t 7" and new LP, "Con La Muerte A Tu Lado." Dual male/female vocals. Highly infectious. Two songs from these LA raw punx, out just in time for their first European tour.  The CS song, "Save Me," is one of their best to date, reminiscent of 45 Grave and other dark punk/post-punk. After a 7", "I'm Your God Now," and LP, "A Pact With The Devil," Catholic Spit have really hit their stride with this split. The rhythm section is top-notch, backing haunting vocals and drowning guitars and melodies.

PERMANENT RUIN "MAS ALLA DE LA MUERTE" 7" (WARTHOG SPEAK)
"Más allá de la Muerte" packs more intensity, rage, presence, and oppressive pressure changes than most hardcore band's entire careers. From the opening rumble, PERM RÜ locks into a steamrolling pummel of blazing riffs, occasional blast beats, mosh breakdowns, and blood-boiling vocals that combine for a merciless hardcore thrill-kill to your emotions and never lets up til all puny wimps are left cowering in the wake. For those keeping score, this Bay Area wrecking machine sports members of IN DISGUST and CONDENADA. They've also managed to pull Tobia of LOOK BACK AND LAUGH out of retirement for guest vocals on a track.

VACCINE / NO FAITH - SPLIT 7" (VINYL RITES)
Vaccine's final release is 5 songs of honed and hardened hardcore with slightly more noise then before. As if their other 7"s weren't angry enough, this pushes it over the top. With the end of Vaccine comes a more active No Faith, who's LP last year (Painkiller Records) was mighty impressive. This is more of the same-a one song heavy noise dirge. Recorded by Will Killingsworth, mastered by West West Side, art by Dan Rossiter.

CAUGHT IN A CROWD "THE FIGHT" 7" (REACT)
The new wind has arrived with CAUGHT IN A CROWD, a young straight edge hardcore band from Cape Cod and one of the latest bands to join the growing REACT! Records roster. Pulling strong influence from the heavier side of youth crew and early New Age Records catalog, turn of the millennium bands like Carry On and Count Me Out, and proudly representing the edge and intensity of Massachusetts Hardcore past and present, CAUGHT IN A CROWD is a force of nature that demands attention and respect. With the world still recovering from their first major tour and one of the most talked about sets at This Is Hardcore 2013, CAUGHT IN A CROWD and REACT! Records are proud to present "The Fight." If you didn’t know, now you do.

PESADILLA DISTOPIKA "NO HAY NINGUNA MANERA DE ESKAPAR" 7" (VERDUGO DISCOS)
Pesadilla Distopika, one of L.A.'s best new bands, debut 7" "No Hay Ninguna Manera De Eskapar" presents six tracks of Hardcore Punk in the vein of GLAM, Destino Final, and Wretched with a tint of some Italian/Japanese influenced-HC. Distorted guitars, fast songs with catchy break downs, and catchy mid-tempo songs. This band released an excellent demo earlier in the year but really hit their stride in this release. 2013 has been a great year for punk in Southern California and Pesadilla Distopika have been one of the reasons why.

BREAKDOWN "RUNNIN' SCARED" LP (540)
540 Records and Painkiller present one of the most important and, yep, best, New York Hardcore recordings on vinyl for the first time EVER, with “Running Scared,” the second demo in Breakdown’s Both Demos set. This is music to wear a Mr. Peanut t-shirt to, to lace up your Spot-Bilt sneakers and stagedive into a pike of Daisy Dukes and Village Voice back-issues. On this 540 and Painkiller split release you will find: The Running Scared demo, from 1988, recorded in The Loft studios in Bronxville, near the parkway, and previously unreleased versions of All I Ask and Hold Me Back--the latter basically a new Breakdown song that you can't get anywhere else except for this thing--and their WNYU session from 1989. The demo is as good as any hardcore record ever, and the band is as good as any band. It’s on vinyl now, finally, so buy this thing, put on a ringer tee, spill spaghetti sauce on it and start spreading the credit around.

MOD SUBS "PRIMITIVE BY TODAY'S STANDARDS" LP (BEACH IMPEDIMENT)
Impressive reissue of this never before heard gem, sourced direct from long lost master reels unearthed from the Richmond, VA hardcore archives! MOD SUBS were a band from 1981, the first in a lineage of RVA bands that would eventually evolve into WHITE CROSS. What you get is an excellent snapshot of the beginning of early 80's hardcore forming in a relatively small southern / mid-atlantic city.  MOD SUBS deliver an extremely raw and elementary, but nonetheless interesting and inspiring output.  It is limited to a mere 300 copies on an incredible full print two-color silkscreened jacket and I would say highly recommended for any hc/punk scholar intrigued by the origins and evolution of US Hardcore.  You can read the full MOD SUBS story at http://beachimpedimentrecords.blogspot.com.

LEATHERFACE "MINX" LP (FANCLUB)
European reissue of their great 4th album. Reproduces the layout from the Japanese CD version and also adds two tracks from the super-limited bonus 7" that came with a few copies of the first pressing. Essential for any LEATHERFACE fan.

HUSKER DU "THE TRUTH HEARTS: EARLY DEMOS AND RECORDINGS 1979-1980" LP (FANCLUB)
Collection of Husker Du Demos and Unreleased Material 79-80. Some of this stuff is on "everything falls apart and more" in better quality but some of the other stuff on here is SUPER cool, particularly if you like Land Speed Record.

NECROS "CONQUEST FOR DEATH COLLECTION" LP (FANCLUB)
Recent NECROS collection featuring their CONQUEST FOR DEATH LP and more! One of the nicer looking fanclub issues I've seen of the NECROS 12" and also features tracks from the "Early Days Bootleg" EP, "Sex Drive" EP, "IQ 32" EP and the "Process Of Elimination" compilation EP. 36 tracks total.  Nice print quality, jacket stock, and comes with a double sided insert! Hailing from Maumee, Ohio, the Necros were one of the first hardcore bands in the U.S.! Consisting of highschoolers Barry Henssler, Andy Wendler, and Todd Swalla, the Necros formed way back in 1979. Meatmen vocalist and scenester Tesco Vee soon took the band under his wing, and within a year they were at the forefront of a scene centered around Detroit, Michigan. Absolutely essential Necros reissue here.  "Good powerful hardcore with that old T&G sound. You can already hear the first traces of hard rock on this LP; some of the songs are a bit slower, and the music tends to be less brutal than that of their labelmates Negative Approach or Fix. But this is still a classic, no doubt about it." - FLEX

LAST WORDS "S/T" LP (TO LIVE A LIE)
LAST WORDS is a band you’ve either never heard of, or you have heard hype about them floating around online. I am lucky to live in the town they hail from and I have seen them a number of times and I believe all the hype! LAST WORDS isn’t much of a departure from Jeff’s last band, STRIPMINES, who also had lightening quick riffs, strong blasts, and almost an evil hardcore nature on top of very catchy fast punk songs. Where the two bands diverge is the vocals. Marina contributes her shrill and abrasive vocals and introspective but pissed lyrics. If you want a band that makes you feel uncomfortable yet their songs get stuck in your head seconds after the B-side ends – look no further!

ABUSE "S/T" LP (TO LIVE A LIE)
If there is anything good in the world to be hopeful about, ABUSE. quickly bring you back to reality with seventeen of the angriest and most depressing powerviolence tracks that you will be able to stand. The band melds classic NO COMMENT/INFEST/NEANDERTHAL sound with some hardcore undertones and have really stepped up the production value since their initial releases. Still raw as hell sounding, this LP was recorded with Kris Hilbert at Legitimate Business who brought out the band's sheer heaviness out on each track. If you are looking to be uplifted, don't look to this record. If you have had the worst day ever and you want to listen to the aural equivalent of Nietzsche, then you will have a winner with this record. Hope is the most evil of evils, and ABUSE. says you're fucked.

MAGIC CIRCLE "S/T" LP (ARMAGEDDON)
Armageddon Shop is proud to announce that the MAGIC CIRCLE "Self Titled" album is now available via the Armageddon Shop in house imprint. Available on CD or LP w/download. CD is a pro pressed standard jewel case version. Vinyl is housed in a full color Stoughton tip-on sleeve with printed inner sleeve and comes with a digital download coupon. Recorded in 2011 at the infamous Paincave in Massachusetts and mastered by Carl Saff who did the recent ELDER 12" we released in 2012. Drawing from classic NWOBHM and traditional metal influences, this five piece comprised of veteran local musicians (Mind Eraser, Rival Mob, Doomriders, etc) have turned out a well crafted solid as hell metal album. They've definitely done their listening homework over the years. Strong and catchy songs, heavy but not tuned down, recorded well but not overproduced, it captures the old DIY ethic of metal in the early 80's. The vocals have an almost Ozzy quality at times, solid as hell. We're totally stoked on this record!

SWEARIN "SURFIN STRANGE" LP (SALINAS)
"It feels like hardly a minute has passed since DIY pop-punk quartet Swearin' released their self-titled debut last August, yet here comes "Watered Down," the first single from their sophomore effort Surfing Strange ( out November 5 through Salinas Records and via Wichita in the UK). The band, now relocated from Philadelphia to Brooklyn, has become more of a team effort this time around, with members Allison Crutchfield, Kyle Gilbride and Keith Spencer (who also plays with Allison's twin sister Katie in Waxahatchee) sharing writing credits throughout the album. Featuring Gilbride on lead vocals, "Watered Down" is a characteristically simple three-minute bit that doesn't stray too far from the band's introspectively rebellious past, but it does showcase Swearin's evolution toward a more defined 1990s-alt-rock drawl as it chronicles the end of a relationship, one that's been decaying slowly from avoidance and growth in different directions."

SAMIAM "WHATEVER'S GOT YOU DOWN" LP (NO IDEA)
Originally released by Hopeless Records in 2006, now remixed and remastered with love by Jeff Dean (THE BOMB). Jeff truly ripped the lid off this record and brought a newfound clarity and immediacy! To all those who loved these songs already, allow us to reintroduce you. Includes a bonus song and shiny updated artwork by Sergie Loobkoff!  Remixed by Jeff Dean (THE BOMB) in 2013 at Million Yen Studios in Chicago, IL.  Remastered by Jon Drew at Infinite Wavelength in Toronto, Ontario

DEEP WOUND "S/T" 7"  (ARMAGEDDON)
Armageddon Shop is proud to announce the release of a legitimate reissue of this classic USHC classic available again on vinyl. Deep Wound were one of a handful of great punk bands from the outer regions of Massachusetts who have been largely overlooked by HC history in favor of the "Boston Crew" bands who put out records on XClaim! or Modern Method. The four-piece recorded their one and only single with Lou Giordano and Frank Michaels (Proletariat) and released it on the Radiobeat label in 1982. The record is snotty teenage punk rock but played at lightning speed with totally manic singing. Drummer J Mascis and guitarist Lou Barlow went on to further greatness by forming the seminal indie rock band Dinosaur Jr., and bassist Scott Helland played in the Outpatients until their breakup in 1995. The Deep Wound material is all amazing and essential. It has been released in many forms, including several vinyl bootlegs, and an authorized Discography via Damaged Goods several years ago.

ANTI-CIMEX "VICTIMS OF A BOMB RAID" 7" (NADA NADA DISCOS)
Reissue! Anti-Cimex, named after a Swedish insecticide, are one of the most influential hardcore bands to come out of Sweden in the wake of Discharge. Their noisy, high-speed take on the UKHC sound laid the foundation for the modern "Swedish sound."  "Victims of a bombraid" was recorded in April 1984 and was released the same year by Anti Cinex and Malign Massacre and it was re-released by Core Horror Recordsit in 1987. "Victims..." was the follow up to "Anarkist attack"(1981) and "Raped ass" (1982)

ANTI-CIMEX "ANARKIST ATTACK" 7" (NADA NADA DISCOS)
Reissue! Anti-Cimex, named after a Swedish insecticide, are one of the most influential hardcore bands to come out of Sweden in the wake of Discharge. Their noisy, high-speed take on the UKHC sound laid the foundation for the modern "Swedish sound." "Anarkist Attack" is their debut EP from 1981!

FLAG OF DEMOCRACY "CHINESE FOOD" 7" (WHO CARES)
This is the EP that started it all. FOD in June of 1982 with their first drummer Mike and their only recording with their first bassist Zeke (later of McRad). Originally released as a 7 song dubbed tape. Now re-released with an 8th song from the same session, remastered on a pro-printed, shrink wrapped tape with a download card. LTD TO 300.

INSULTS, THE "POPULATION ZERO" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Few bands have been named more fittingly than The Insults. All of their songs (and this 7" is the tip of the ol' iceberg, pal) are an affront to "good" taste, "good" manners, "good" musicianship...in other words, the perfect band for you and me. A long-time collector-fave finally reissued in it's proper form here, this two-songer from the prides of Watsonville, CA still sounds as wonderfully ignorant today as it did in 1979 and makes an excellent introduction to the world of Richard Sikk & his cohorts. "Population Zero" is a plea to eliminate the entire human race, a prayer we're much closer to answering in 2013. "Zombie Lover" is....well, just what you think it is. Special guest appearance by Cher. Buy or cry.

VILLAGE PISTOLS "BIG MONEY" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
The Village Pistols was a short-lived punk rock band from North Carolina who never went anywhere and mostly disbanded even before they committed any of their music to tape. Their name seemed to come from a mixture of the Village People and the Sex Pistols. They were very loud, kinda sloppy and they played fast. Had they stuck around for any length of time they may have actually been discovered by neighboring punk scenes and been a bigger part of the early hardcore movement had they continued to put out any records. Sadly, however, that didn’t happen but they did manage to release a 7″ single around the time they called it quits. The story goes that the label had pressed 1000 of them but at least half of the pressing was warped and returned to the plant for a refund so what could have been a rare but not that difficult to track down a copy of single became a lot more scarce and as a result (and thanks to the posthumous popularity of this single two decades later) this record is very hard to find and commands a hefty sum of money to obtain. The 7″ had two songs on it: the title track which was an original composition of fast, loud, and raw punk rock that is well worth the big money the original commands (which I’d love to own but don’t have the big money to obtain it), and a cover of The Beatles’, “Strawberry Fields” that you’d be hard pressed to distinguish as a Beatles song due to how much they punk it up in their loud, fast, and reckless way.

KIDDA BAND "FIGHTING MY WAY BACK" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Someone maybe should have told Malcolm McLaren when he set out to form the Sex Pistols in 1976 that there already was extant a raunchier, punchier Bay City Rollers and that they weren't from London either, but from Coventry. Melding perfectly everything perfect about the decade - from the glitter rock of Mud and the Rollers to the sing-along-sans-workism choruses of the Clash at their Hoople-est - the Incredible Kidda Band represent the legitimate sound of the British suburban teenage in all its tell-tale trappings.

NUBS "JOB / LITTLE BILLY'S BURNING" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Official reissue of SF KBD punk classic. Perhaps the punkest song ever penned.

FIRE EXIT "TIME WALL" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Official reissue from Scotland's longest running punk band. This is their self-released single from 1978. The title track was featured on Killed By Death Volumes 6 and 7 along with a Bloodstains Across the UK.

CARTOONS, THE "SHE'S A ROCK AND ROLLER" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Impossibly rare 1981 7” out of Yonkers, NY, reissued by Last Laugh. Johnny Thunders/Heartbreakers-style sleazy NY Punk, the original was actually a promo for a local Hair Salon. Great single, even if 1981 (what with Hardcore around the corner) was a bit late to still be singing about Max’s Kansas City and sounding like a rawer New York Dolls!

CAPTIVE BOLT / GARY FRANCIONE - SPLIT 7" (DEAD TANK)
A vengeful follow-up to last years “Rape, Slaughter, Slavery and Vivisection” 7”. Jacksonville’s Captive Bolt continue down a lyrical path of vegan and animal rights issues while blasting a hardcore punk sounds with a fresh and modernized reincarnation of Left for Dead. The power of the message here is only brought to the next level since the band teams up with esteemed author Gary Francione - a professor of law and philosophy at Rutgers University. He is a longtime vegan and writes and teaches about animal rights theory and animal law, as well about the relationship between the rights of humans and nonhumans. Gary contributions to this release are exclusive and recorded specifically to work thematically with Captive Bolt’s tracks.

VOLTAGE "AIN'T NOTHING" 7" (TCM)
A brand new outfit from the western outskirts of germany - wegberg to be precise. the five dudes thrash some harsh 80s hardcore songs, mixed with some catchy hooklines. think of newer Ceremony teaming up with Dead Stop and the r'n'r-vibe of the Bronx or Dean Dirg! Prepare for a total punk-party-goodie!

ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT - "DEAD SERIOUS DEMO 1985" LP (FANCLUB)
This is the 1st demo by these bay-area thrashers. Here you get 10 tracks - the perfect blend of thrashy metal and fast hardcore. This demo is so raw and pissed, its a genuine classic. It blows the forthcoming full-length away. After the demo they went on to release that great record on Pusmort called “american paranoia”. Even more metal crept into their sound and they ended up changing some members and shortend the name to just ATTITUDE. With each incarnation of the band, they got further away from the blazing thrash that made them a household name.

QUICKSAND "SLIP" LP (FANCLUB)
"Attempt to pick apart the puzzlingly named genre known as post-hardcore and you’ll likely find yourself with a handful of random strands that only loosely tie together. There’ll obviously be DC titans Fugazi and those they helped to nurture (Jawbox, Shudder to Think et al) along with lesser-knowns like Bastro and scads of other odd, awkward, stylistically-different acts all laying claim to the pigeonhole.  If, however, you’re looking for one definitive act that sums it all up then look no further than this: the 1993 debut full-length from Quicksand.  Quicksand began in 1990, members having already set the standard for perky, positive, late-80s hardcore with acts like Gorilla Biscuits, Bold and Youth of Today. Clearly not considering this achievement enough, they then set about altering the 90s underground with an obtuse shift in sound that must have had youth crew fans everywhere shaking their baseball capped heads and wondering just what the connection was.  Slip is a taut mix of staccato crunches, fluttering harmonics, chiming bass notes and Walter Schreifels’ strained, strung-out vocals. The music was as blunt, efficient and businesslike as their song titles (Unfulfilled, Head to Wall, Dine Alone), and sweats pent-up stress, discontent and frustration with a disconcertingly crisp directness. Tunes shift from hoarse melodies and jittery desperation to coruscating crashes, tracks like album standout Omission demonstrating immaculate poise and a white-knuckled grip on their surging dynamics.  Beyond the 90s and even beyond the early 00s, Quicksand’s influence still refuses to dwindle. Such nods ensure Slip’s continued relevance as both history lesson and 40-minute master class in post-hardcore perfection." *Please note this is a fanclub issue, not the official reissue on SRC.

FAILED MUTATION - DEMO TAPE (NOT NORMAL)
That's right, True Believers, Not Normal is back with a brand new offering of Midwest slime: Milwaukee's Failed Mutation. Some schmucks you know/love got together and oozed out 7 originals plus a Deep Wound cover and were magnanimous enough to let us put it out. Raging hardcore that takes cues from Necros, Zero Boys, and, yeah, a bit of Deep Wound. You're a Failed Mutation, I'm a Failed Mutaion, We're all Failed Mutations, so do the mutant shuffle and get this tape, you fucks!

ABORTION REELS - DEMO TAPE
Abortion Reels is currently one of Southern California's most exciting new bands. Raw snotty hardcore punk from San Bernardino and the High Desert with members of Pesadilla Distopika. 4 tracks of mid-tempo catchy fucked up tunes.

DESPERAT "FIRST TWO AND A HALF" CD (RESCUED FROM LIFE)
Contains ALL tracks from the first 2 7"s and the split with GIFTGASATTACK plus an unreleased rager. Raw Swedish D-beat hardcore executed by some familiar faces who left an undeniable impact on the genre decades ago and continue to churn out punk hits. DKRECS-015

WANKYS, THE "AMERICAN WANK" DISCOGRAPHY CD (RESCUED FROM LIFE)
"Japanese noise punk via the U.K! Can you imagine Disorder and Confuse having a glue-sniffing session and the survivors picking up some instruments and heading off to a studio? Have you ever had a mental picture of early Swankys and early Chaos UK competing against each other over who has the nosiest guitar sound?" Ok...Do I need to tell you anything more..? Contains all trax from the Weapons Of  Musical Destruction 8" Lp , Lost In France ... And Drunk 7", Noise Disorder And Chaos split Lp , The Very Best Of Hero Lp , Noise Punk 7".

HATRED SURGE "HUMAN OVERDOSE PLUS 5" CD (RESCUED FROM LIFE)
HATRED SURGE has been around for a while but only release an album when it is truly ready. During the session, Alex described this recording to us as "a rhino on pcp" and we cannot disagree. This current back to basics 3 piece phase of HS sees a much more apparent death metal influence but still retains the "grinding violence" stylings they are known (and loved) for. Make no mistake, this album will smash you. CD also includes the 3 songs from the “Brutal Supremacy” comp and the “Purgatory” 7” (RFL100)

HELLKRUSHER "DOOMSDAY HOUR/VICTIMS OF HATE" CD (RESCUED FROM LIFE)
Hellkrusher are back.  Their 1996 LP “doomsday hour” is finally issued on cd for the first time in 2013. They have been compared  to Varukers & Discharge and with buzzsaw guitars & pounding drums & aggressive shouted vocals that’s not far off! Formed from the talents of Hellbastard and Energetic Krusher members, Hellkrusher released several albums in 1991 and 1993 and this one in 1996. They have released several splits with bands like DISCLOSE and more recently DEADLY REIGN. They have shared the stage with bands like Doom, D.I.R.T. , Avskum, Extinction of Mankind and many more classic bands. This reissue contains the “Victims of Hate” 7” from 1999 and a bonus Subhumans cover! 24 tracks total and all completely remastered by BRI DOOM. RFL97
